TULF leader calls Karunanidhi to mediate

President TULF V.Anandasangaree has called Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, M.Karunanidhi to facilitate peace talks aimed at ending the conflict in Sri Lanka. The full text of the letter follows;

The Tamil People of Sri Lanka are glad that Tamil Naad has started showing interest in the Sri Lankan ethnic problem. But they are disappointed that the concerns of the Tamil People now trapped in the areas under the control of the LTTE are ignored. LTTE is using them as human shield to protect them. The People are also upset and worried that the enthusiasm displayed in Tamil Naad is showing tendencies of confrontation with the majority community the Sinhalese, with whom the Tamils had been living from time immemorial and will have to live in the future as well. Long before his assassination Mahatma Gandhi had warned that India and Ceylon can’t afford to quarrel each other, but more than that being immediate neighbours and having several things in common, Tamil Naad and Sri Lanka should maintain cordial relationship between the two. COLOMBO: Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa has said his government has made arrangements for the safety of the displaced civilians in Wanni once they enter the “cleared areas” from the LTTE controlled territory amid reports of heavy fighting on Sunday.

Mr. Rajapaksa gave the assurance when Tamil United Liberation Front (TULF) leader V. Anandasangaree called on him at the Presidential Palace on Friday and discussed the situation in Wanni and the political developments in South India. (more…)

இலங்கையின் இன்றைய நிலவரங்கள்பற்றி இந்திய அரசு தனது ஆழ்ந்த கவலையை தெரிவித்திருந்தது அறிந்ததே. இலங்கை அரசின் நிலைப்பாட்டையும், வடக்கு போர் சூழலையும் இந்திய அரசுக்கு விளக்கி கூறுவதற்கு இலங்கை அரசின் சார்பாக விசேட தூதுக் குழுவொன்றை பசில் ராஜபக்ஷ தலைமையில் டில்கிக்கு அனுப்பி வைக்க முடிவாகியுள்ளது. டில்கி செல்லும் இலங்கை அரசின் இந்த தூதுக்குழுவில் இடம்பெறும்படி த.வி.கூ.தலைவர் ஆனந்தசங்கரிக்கு ஜனாதிபதி அழைப்பு விடுத்திருந்தபோதிலும் அதை ஆனந்தசங்கரி நிராகரித்துவிட்டதாக செய்திகள் தெரிவிக்கின்றன. Commencing with an all party protest fast initiated by the Indian Communist party, the month of October had been a hectic one for the state of Tamil Nadu in India.

The protest fast was concerning the plight of Sri Lankan Tamils in the north.Besides, the Minister of Local Governance and Deputy Treasurer of the DMK, M.K. Appeal to the leaders of Political Parties and the People of Tamil Nadu - Anandasangaree

“The LTTE is fighting a conventional war with sophisticated weapons. They use Aircrafts big or small. A section of the people is kept under their subjugation with almost all their rights denied, in certain areas for more than a quarter of a century. In these areas youths in the range of 20-25 years had not even seen a train and the leaders they know are Pirabakaran, Pottuamman, Thamilselvan and such others. The government is duty-bound to free its own people from the clutches of an illegal terrorist outfit the LTTE. கடந்த வருடம் தென் ஆபிரிக்க விஜயத்தின்போது அதி வணக்கத்துக்குரிய ஆண்டகை டெஸ்டமென்ட ருரு அச்சமயம் வெளிநாடு சென்றிருந்தமையினால் அவர்களைச் சந்திக்கும் வாய்ப்பு கிட்டவில்லை. செப்டெம்பர் மாதம் 23ந்திகதி அவர்களை சந்தித்து இலங்கை இனப்பிரச்சினை தொடர்பான நிலமைகள் குறித்து உரையாடுவதற்கான வாய்ப்பு கிட்டியிருந்தது. சகிப்புத்தன்மையும் அகிம்சையையும் முன்னெடுத்துச் சென்றதற்கான யுனெஸ்கோ வழங்கிய மதன்ஜீற்சிங் விருதை பெற்றிருந்த எனக்கு சமாதானத்திற்கான நோபல் பரிசை பெற்றிருந்து இரணடாவது ஆபிரிக்கர் ஒருவரைச் சந்திப்பதில் பெரு மகிழ்ச்சியடைந்தேன். சமாதானத்தை என்நாட்டுக்கு மீண்டும் கொண்டு வரும் பணியில் ஈடுபட்டிருக்கும் எனக்கு இத்தகைய சந்தர்ப்பம் எனது வாழ்நாளில் மிகவும் முக்கியத்துவம் வாய்ந்த ஒரு நிகழ்வாக கருதுகிறேன்.
