Speech by Mr. V. Anandasangaree, president of TULF, at the opening of Call of the Conscience—a human rights art exhibit on the conflict in Sri Lanka—held at Roy Thomson Hall in downtown Toronto, August 23, 2008.

Sri Lanka had been a peaceful country for generations, in which the Sinhalese, Tamils, Muslims, Burghers, Malays and people of other ethnic groups, lived in peace and harmony. During the late seventies and eighties there were a few upheavals due to the violation of human rights, injustice, discrimination, exploitation and intolerance. The victims were mainly Tamils and Muslims. Various Tamil groups cropped up as saviors of the Tamils and Muslims. Their fire- power could not stand against one group called the LTTE which gradually either eradicated the other groups or silenced them with their fire-power and emerged as a single group committed to dictatorship. TULF chief dismayed by support for LTTE in Canada

The president of the Tamil United Liberation Front is in Toronto for a few days meeting with his constituents, Sri Lankan-Canadians, Canadian politicians at various levels, sharing with them how political conditions in his country have deteriorated.

V Andasangaree, who was previously member of Sri Lankan Parliament, was a guest speaker at the opening of the exhibition The Call of the Conscience at Toronto’s Royal Thompson Hall on August 25. (more…)

கனடாவில் நிகழ்ந்த மனசாட்சியின் குரல் கண்காட்சி நிகழ்ச்சில் த.வி.கூ தலைவர் திரு. வீ. ஆனந்தசங்கரி அவர்கள் கலந்துகொண்டு உரையாற்றுகையில். தலைமுறை தலைமுறையாக இலங்கையில் பல்லின மக்களாகிய சிங்கள, தமிழ், இஸ்லாமிய, பறங்கிய, மலாய மற்றும் பல்லினங்களும் அமைதியாகவும், சமாதானமாகவும், வாழ்ந்து வந்துள்ளனர். 1970ம், 80ம் ஆண்டுகளில் மனித உரிமை மீறல்கள், நீதியற்ற நடவடிக்கைகள், பாரபட்ச செயற்பாடுகள், சுரண்டல், சகிப்புத் தன்மைக்கு அப்பால் ஏற்பட்ட சம்பவங்களால் அடிக்கடி அசம்பாவிதங்கள் ஏற்பட்டன. அவற்றால் பாதிப்புற்றோர், அநேகமாக பாதிப்புற்றோர் தமிழ், இஸ்லாமிய மக்களே. A’sangaree blames Govt. for plight of IDPs

TULF leader V. Anandasangaree blamed the government for the plight of 50 per cent of the people living in the North and the East who are displaced. These people have undergone many hardships without food, clothing and shelter. Medical care has not been provided to any internally displaced person, Anadasangaree claimed. (more…)

யுத்தத்தில் ஈடுபட்டுள்ள அரச படைகளும் விடுதலைப் புலிகளும் கட்டுப்பாட்டுடன் செயற்பட வேண்டும் - வீ. ஆனந்தசங்கரி

முல்லைத்தீவு வைத்தியசாலைக்கு அண்மையில் இராணுவம் மேற்கொண்ட செல் தாக்குதலால் ஒன்றரை வயது குழந்தையை பலி கொண்டதோடு 18 அப்பாவி பொது மக்களும் படுகாயமடைந்துள்ளனர். அதைத் தொடர்ந்து இடம்பெற்ற இன்னுமொரு சம்பவத்தில் இருவர் கொல்லப்பட்டதாகவும், சில வீடுகள் சேதத்துக்குள்ளானதாகவும் அறிய வருகிறது. இதேபோன்ற சந்தர்ப்பத்தில் ஒரு குழந்தையை அல்லது தமது உறவினர் ஒருவரை இழப்பவர்களாலேயே இந்த இழப்பின் வேதனையை உணர முடியும். இவ்வாறு பாதிக்கப்பட்டவர்கள் யார்? விடுதலைப் புலிகளின் கட்டுப்பாட்டுப் பிரதேசத்தில் அகப்பட்டுக் கொண்டார்கள் என்பதைத் தவிர இவர்கள் சமூகத்திற்கு செய்த குற்றம் என்ன? இவ்வாறு துன்பப்படும் மக்களின் துன்பத்தை போக்கி நிம்மதி பெருமூச்சுவிட வைக்க முடியாவிட்டால் நாம் பௌத்த தர்மத்திற்கு கட்டுப்பட்டு வாழ்கிறோம் என்று எவ்வாறு கூற முடியும்? எது நடப்பினும் யுத்தம் தொடர வேண்டுமென்று வாதாடுகின்றவர்கள் இன்றும் நம் நாட்டில் வாழ்கின்றார்கள். இனப்பிரச்சனை தீர்விற்கு தொடர்ந்தும் முட்டுக்கட்டையாக இருப்பவர்களும் அவர்களே.
