Love your country and its people : Anandasangaree tells Tamils

Tamil United Liberation Front Leader V. Anandasangaree, who toured South Africa recently, reveals his fresh insights on achieving peace and reconciliation, in an exclusive interview with the Daily News. “If you want to be a patriot, love your country and its people,” says Anandasangaree, an outstanding critic of the LTTE and a vociferous advocate of extensive devolution.

Anandasangaree remarks that “we have a lot to learn from South Africa” where previously bitter enemies now work together for the betterment of their country. He also talks about the Tripartite Alliance of Tamil parties and expresses doubts over whether the LTTE will ever be keen on a negotiated settlement.

Anandasangaree rejects SLFP proposals

TULF leader V. Anandasangaree yesterday informed President Mahinda Rajapaksa that he was unable to accept the proposals submitted by the SLFP as they did not meet the aspirations of the Tamil people.

Mr. Anandasangaree said the SLFP proposals in their current form would be counter productive with the LTTE even regaining support which was lost as a result of its recent “childish fire works”.

The TULF leader said although not obliged to do so, the Sri Lankan government had a moral duty to keep the Indian government and the Tamil Nadu state informed of the proposals in appreciation of the efforts by the Indian Navy and Tamil Nadu police to curtail LTTE activities.

TULF Leader laments uproar over UK debate

COLOMBO: Antagonising friendly nations is not a healthy way to counter adverse LTTE propaganda, TULF Leader V.Anandasangaree said expressing his opinion over the uproar against the recent ‘House of Commons’ debate on Sri Lanka.

He said due to the efforts of the countries like US, India and others, the LTTE arms procurement machinery has been crippled to some extent and antagonising these nations could do damage to the country than any good. (more…)

S Africa will not allow terrorist activities – Mbeki

South African President Thabo Mbeki assured two of the mainstream Tamil political party leaders — Minister Douglas Devananda, who is also the Secretary General of the EPDP and V. Anandasangaree, leader of the TULF - that of South Africa will never provide a base for terrorists organizations from any country, agency reports said yesterday.

President Mbeki emphasized that his country would only support efforts for any political solution through negotiation, Asian Tribune news service reported. (more…)

ஸ்ரீலங்கா சுதந்திரக்கட்சியினால் இனப்பிரச்சினை தீர்வுக்காக வெளியிடப்பட்டிருக்கின்ற ஆலோசனைகள் எவ்விதத்திலும் தமிழ் பேசும் மக்களினுடைய அபிலாசைகளை அண்மிக்கவில்லை என்பதால், தமிழர் விடுதலைக் கூட்டணி ஈழமக்கள் புரட்சிகர விடுதலை முன்னணி, தமிழீழ மக்கள் விடுதலைக் கழகம் ஆகிய மூன்று கட்சிகளும் இப்பிரேரனைகள் ஏற்றுக்கொள்ள முடியாதவை என்பதை தெட்டத்தெளிவாக கூறிக்கொள்கின்றன.

இந்த பிரேரனைகள் இனப்பிரச்சினைக்கான தீர்வை எட்டமுடியாதவை என்பது மாத்திரமல்லாது சமாதான முயற்சிகளை முன்னெடுப்பதற்கு தடையாகவே இருக்கும்.

Three Tamil parties reject SLFP proposals: “proposals do not meet with the aspirations of the Tamil people”

Three Tamil parties yesterday totally rejected the SLFP proposals, for a solution to the ethnic crisis, which were forwarded to the APRC.

Leader of the Tamil United Liberation Front (TULF) V. Anandasangari said the EPRLF (Padmanaba Group), the PLOTE and the TULF ‘deeply regret’ that the proposals do not meet with the aspirations of the Tamil people and therefore they had decided to reject it in toto.

“We find that the SLFP proposals, instead of taking the peace process forward, have made it difficult to find a reasonable solution. Furthermore, being the ruling party, its proposals should not form the guideline to a solution. It has even made the proposals of the other parties irrelevant.

“Fifty years of agitation by the Tamils for their rights has brought them back to square one. This was after so many lives were lost and destruction was caused to property. Having failed to find a reasonable solution under a unitary system, the Tamils will not accept anything less than a Federal solution,” Anandasangaree said.
