Upsurge of Tamil - cleavage deepens when contrast pointed out with reservation by Sangaree
Sunday, September 26th, 2004V. Anandasangaree, the leader of the Tamil United Liberation Front in a statement released to the media pointedly draws the contrasting position in the North-east merged Tamil homeland in Sri Lanka and that of the foreign countries where today Tamils by residing in those countries made it their homelands.
In the press release, Anandasangaree appeal to students and youths to come forward to rise against the atrocities committed by the Tamils to the Tamils.
He is very vociferous against the gun culture and the diabolic killing and the genocidal culture unleashed by the Tamil militant group against the Tamils.
The full text of the statement issued by Anandasangaree is given below :
In our land, in the name of liberation of the Tamil people, killing is committed to date and taking into account the number of people killed by the disbanded EROS up to by the Karuna’s group, including all the armed groups, it indeed exceeds the killings of our kith and kin by the Sri Lankan Army.
In the list of those killed would include academics, human right defenders, university Tamil undergraduates who struggled for justice, paramilitaries and civilians.
Even today, during these days peace is supposed to be prevalent in the country, daily our Tamil women are being continuously rendered widows by the Tamils.
Though our kids continuously witness the horrendous sight of their father or mother being shot and killed for political reasons and there is so far no upsurge against these atrocities?
Even TELO Adaikalanathan who lost Sri Sabaratnam the leader of his organization, continues to maintain tacit silence. Also Suresh Premachandran, who lost his leader Pathmanabaha and his several colleagues in a fateful day, but unfortunately remain mortified in silence.
After the loss of our leader A.Amirthalingam, our friend Sampanthan who said to have lead literally a life of a musk-deer and Senathirajah - the one who posed as the commander of the political force, today remain a distraught musk-deer, not because of his own seeking, but merely because guns has been pointed towards his direction.
Those who have lost their leaders pay deceptive tribute to them and lead a deceitful life, instead they can come forward to disband their political parties and it is highly appropriate for them to join the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam.
For the educational upliftment of the underprivileged students of Jaffna, no student organizations has so far come forward to cause the opening up of the Jaffna library, which remains under lock and key by the political division of the Liberation Tigers and unfortunately so far no effervescence took place.
Undoubtedly it would be me alone who would raise the voice for the opening up of the Jaffna Library. Therefore, what will be the earthly use of the so called upsurge of the Tamil in a foreign country where you all are well settled in life?
The Tamil Diasporas should come forward to rise against the cowardly acts of spilling the blood of the Tamils by the Tamils.
To put an end to these diabolic acts of genocide, academics, human rights defenders, newspapers, radios, TV stations, and online medias should come forward. This is a common social obligation and is the responsibility of almost every one in the community.
When right of life for a section of the Tamils is being denied and deprived in their own soil, what is the use of the upsurge of Tamil, just merely for the so called rights.
Those who have been chased out of Jaffna – the Tamil speaking Muslims, majority of them were engaged in sewing cloths – the poor tailors, who are so far not resettled and the bitter truth is that until such time the so called cry for the Tamil nationalism will not fully metamorphose.
The other day Suresh Premachandran who miraculously escaped death while Pathmanabah and others were killed in cold blood and was branded as a traitor, but suddenly after joining in the Tamil National Alliance he has emerged as a self-sacrificing personality and all these types of miracles would take place only in our land.
He is also moving around musing Tamil nationalism.
Though Sivasithamparam survived the attempt on his live instead of being killed along with Amirthalingham and died lately, and the martyred Sivasithamparam too is claimed as a self-sacrificing personality and this is left in the hands of the All mighty and undoubtedly Siva was a fortunate person than Amir.
Government of Canada - a pioneer in human rights and democracy which gives due regard to democracy and freedom should consider to come forward to safeguard the human rights, not only in their own land, but also must come forward to redeem the deteriorating human rights situation in our land and come forward to educate and lay emphasis to uphold human rights in our land.
Our homeland, the merged north and east where the day when Hindus, Muslims and Christians can unitedly lead a live without any fear of gun, that day will be the real day for the so called Tamil upsurge.
Instead, everyone is now acting, students and civilians too has began to act in radios, newspapers and in online websites and we will all be on an upsurge even during the loud cry of our death beckon us.
Is it justifiable? Tamil people should decide according to their conscience. Kindly come forward to upsurge for those in our homeland who are silently lamenting for their basic rights.
In our Tamil land and in the foreign countries, our contention is that the democratic and human rights which are denied not only by the governments but also by the Tamil outfit must be granted to the common people.
I was the only Tamil politician who openly defied Anton Balasingham when he announced that “Tamil National Alliance is there only on our beck and call has to o do whatever we tell them.”
I still remember my colleagues who compromised but lamented in person over such disgracing comment.
When Erik Solheim, Norwegian Peace envoy while seated in the parliament gallery, was severely criticized by a communal minded Sinhala member and it was I who took the floor to defend the Norwegian envoy in the parliament.
I may be a controversial personality than those leaders of the Tamil political parties who maintain silence to upkeep their positions.
Just to remain as a “yes man” is not alone the obligation of the leaders. Raising their voices against any thing that affects the community is also duty of the leaderships. The truth is always bitter.
If this is the plight of the leaders then who are responsible to safeguard the people who are being considered as a herded flock of cattle?
Those supporters of mine who shows lively interest in my political stance are now requesting me to go with the existing political tide in the country.
Former paramilitary commanders, senior leaders, students and civilians are going along with the tide, because these people are moving with the so called tide why I should also run behind them due to fear.
In a democracy my stance is for yesterday, today and forever, is that only the people are the masters and not the gun,. I am not prepared to stay survived like those leaders who have lost their right to openly voice their conscience to say right or wrong of issues confronts us. I am not prepared to be a chameleon to keep on changing colors.
When you people come forward to rise up against all these challenges confronting the Tamil nation as a whole, on that very day only, I too will join hands with you all for the upsurge of Tamil.
